The wheel unless I bled off the pressure. you might open the bleeder valve slightly to see if it gets loose where wheel will spin freely. This test might tell you its the pressure not being released fully. Rusty caliper piston could also be a problem that is is not moving freely too. Good luck. Bill,. 1 Answer. You've over-tightened the hub, the most likely explanation. Hub tightening needs a lot of forth and back between too little and too much. And putting the hub into the fork and tightening the axle nuts may also become that little too much. Remove the wheel, undo the locking nut and the cone by 1/8 of a turn.

New front wheel bearings wheel not spinning freely.

The front wobbling side-to-side is usually the result of the wheel being off-center or loose. If the spacers were in wrong, I would think that both front calipers/pads would drag. Check the free movement of the wheel without calipers mounted. Then mount one at a time. Also check that the rotors still look true and not bent. I have problem with my new (to me)1974 HONDA CB350 Motorcycle bike. In neutral the rear wheel spins freely in the forward direction, but if I try to spin in reverse direction it either does not spin, is hard to spin, or spins briefly and stops abruptly. Seems to do better after I have ridden the bike. Any ideas on what is causing my problem.

Pull the wheel off. Then install the axle bolt into the forks. If you can't turn the axle freely then the forks are not set correctly. Even though they may be even at the top of the triples, it's not uncommon for the lower leg to be a bit longer than the other. To fix, just loosen one fork and raise or lower it till the axle will thread easily.

Front wheel not spinning freely. Hello, I did a long ride last weekend and now if I leave my bike for a day or so, the front wheel (Fulcrum Racing Sport, 700c) no longer spins freely. After a few spins it will return to normal and spin freely for a good while. It's not the brakes rubbing and it's not a misaligned wheel.

I recently ran over a nail and needed a new tire. I got the wheel off fine, but when replacing the wheel, two things have me a little unsure. First, If I torque the rear axle nut to 47lb/ft it will not spin very freely at all. If I back it off to about 38-39 or so it will feel tight, but spin freely as it should. While installing rim strips on my 2000 CBR F4, I noticed the front wheel was a bit tight. The video shows how I fixed it (I hope). Greetings fellow motorcyclists! I might have an issue with rear wheel spinning while bike is on stand. I have pit-bull stands (rear and front). While bike is on both rear and front stands, the rear wheel doesn't spin freely at all. While bike is on rear stand only, the rear wheel spins but tough. Here is first video, sorry for arcane language (rear and front stands).

They should spin smoothly and it should take a while for the wheel to stop. Sometimes when installing new bearings and you tap the outer race until it is seated, it may be in too far, and put too much of a side load on the bearings. Then they wear out quickly. The spin test will tell you what is going on. Start trouble shooting. If you don't have a bike stand or rack, flip the bike upside down. Then spin your front wheel. Eye the rotors first to see if there is any friction on the pads. Then maybe check to make sure the wheel is seated on the for correctly, so loosen the skewer all the way and spin it again. Find Reply New Reply. Rear wheel especially may not spin freely when new, fresh grease in the freehub and bearings etc. the front wheel should be much freer, but again the bearings will be fully greased which does add a little drag it *is* possible that the bearings are a bit too tight, probably they will be cup and cone ones which are easily adjusted, but tbh.

This means the caliper functions fine, but doesn't allow the whole caliper to return to a free floating position. Solution; pull out the slide pins, and grease them up well. 2.) Bad pistons. Pistons apply fine, but won't return. You can disassemble the caliper and clean it, but often it will return and you'll have to replace it. 3.) Frozen slides. 2,345 Posts. #8 · Feb 1, 2012. My guess is bent rotors. You can check them with a pencil or something, brace the pencil on the fork so the tip almost touches the rotor, then rotate the wheel. Pay attention to the gap, or lack of gap between the pencil and the rotors. Will give you some idea if the rotors are warped.

Take the calipers off and spin wheel - with a felt pen - mark the high spots... If something hit could be bent... It should go around at least once or so before stopping. Then try again after tightening up all the bolts and see if anything changes.

It should let the piston slide back into the caliper. Tighten bleed screw, install caliper and wheel, and top off the brake fluid if needed. Or the top of the resevoir. Take the calipers off, pads off, try and clean the pistons after pumping them out a little, perhaps it will work. 2. Inside your rear wheel is what is called a free hub. It has a ratcheting mechanism that allows you to pedal backwards while conversely engaging when you pedal forward so to transfer pedal force to the wheel. I've been stuck on a trail more than once due to a free hub failing to engage. Unfortunately your free hub is generally not servicable. Participant. When spun as hard as possible, the rear wheel should not spin more than one complete revolution if the brakes are adjusted properly. On the wheel that spins freely check the self-adjuster as it may be frozen in place and not allowing the brake to be adjusted on its own. It is too loose. The other side sounds like it might be too tight.

I am unfamiliar with your front brake design so, these are merely suggestions; 1- Check the rotors to insure they are "floating" on the bobbins. 2- Check that the new pads are free to move in the caliper. 3- Remove pads, inspect the caliper, clean everything and reassemble. 4- Insure that your master cylinder does not have any debris in the fluid.

Brake discs usually do bind slightly which would stop the wheel spinning freely. They shouldn't bind too much though. A good way to check is to go for a short ride without touching the front brake. When you stop (using the back brake) feel the disc. If it is hot, they are binding too much. ____________________. It is not dangerous, you just have a little bit stuck pistons. Remove brake pads. Pump pistons gently to brake disk. Remove one brake caliper. Wash pistons with dish washer and tooth brush. Push pistons back to caliper. Pump front brake to see if pistons move freely.

I continued to spin my rear wheel and still it did not spin freely. I replaced with my old stock wheels for a comparison and they continued spinning for well over a minute before I stopped them.... I do the front wheel just lifting it off the floor to spin it. It's a superb system after faffing about with cup and cone it's a joy! 0. llen Posts. ToyoLuv said: Perfectly normal. You're thinking about a rear wheel drive car. The car is front wheel drive. You will feel the resistance of the transmission when turning the wheel. Go spin the rear wheels and those will be as you're describing. Note this is a stick shift and it was out of gear at the time. Prying didn't help. Prying and hitting the side popped it loose and it moved back into position with no further problems. Wheel is spinning freely as it should. Rode it a bit (trying to find a place that had a replacement screw for the brake reservoir, found one!), everything seems ok now.
